Off On Our Own

Why I Write

Photograph accompanying Why I Write

I write to remember, to make sense of moments that might otherwise slip away. Travelling has a way of filling life with vivid, fleeting experiences — a conversation with a stranger, the smell of rain in a new city, the feeling of standing somewhere you’ve never been before and realising how vast the world really is. Writing helps me hold on to those moments, to give them shape and meaning.

I also write to connect. The stories I share through Off On Our Own aren’t just about places — they’re about people, emotions, and the threads that tie us all together no matter where we come from. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes reflective, and often just honest. Through words, I can bring others along for the ride — not just to show them where I’ve been, but how it felt to be there.

Most of all, I write because it reminds me who I am. Each story becomes a small map of where I’ve been, both in the world and within myself. Writing turns travel into something more than movement — it becomes a journey of understanding, of gratitude, and of finding meaning in the simple act of being off on our own.
