Watsons Bay

Australia

Flag of Australia  , New South Wales, Monday, December 22, 2014

Today we were all having a day out. Cath's cousin Bill has a boat and we were all going to meet him down by the beach at Watson's Bay. We had met most of Cath's family already as last night Bill had put a BBQ on and they were all there; Aunty Pat and Uncle Bill, Bill, Callum, John & his little boy Nathan, Laura and Morgan, and not forgetting the dogs Henry and Brocky. Henry and Brocky weren't here today but everyone else was and two new faces Johns wife Mary Ann and his daughter Jennifer. I think that's everyone! We all gathered on the beach and Bill and the boat was already here too

. When it was our turn to go, we jumped in with Nigel and went off slowly at first before speeding out towards Sydney Harbour Bridge. As we got further out, the waves got bigger and we were being slammed about so we all had to calm down a bit. It was a wonderful sunny day too and brilliant to see Sydney from an angle we hadn't seen before. The classic landmarks appearing; the Opera House, the Bridge rising up in the foreground and the city skyline towering up on the horizon. Beautiful!  As we got a bit closer to these iconic landmarks, Bryan jumped off the boat and had a bit of a swim for a perfect kodak moment. He had to jump out again fairly quickly though as we didn't want any sharks to get a wiff of him and decide he would make a good snack! Well we got soaked through but back on dry land a tasty fish n chip lunch awaited us from the world famous Doyles. Now Jody doesn't eat fish but even she could appreciate the massive platters of fish that were coming out of the kitchen. Oh and for the first time since we left England there was vinegar to put on the chips.
WoW!

Perfect! Not long after we got back from lunch, everyone started packing away for the day. Bill offered the choice of taking the boat back up the Parramatta River to where the trailer was waiting. Of course we said yes but we did feel a bit mean not going back with Nigel & Cath. They assured us they were very happy for us to take the boat so off we shot again, this time with Laura and Callum on board. It was pretty amazing to cruise under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is such a famous bridge that it felt marvellous to actually go under it. It took us about 45 minutes to get to where the boat had to come out and about another hour to get back home. We had had just the most fabulous day. The weather, the company and the experience. So thank you to everyone again - see you all on Christmas Day :-) [gallery columns="4" ids="9577,9586,9595,9607,9623,9636,9645,9656,9665,9674,9682,9691,9700"]
