Train through the Mountains to Nuwara Eliya
14 July 2014
So the distance in a straight line, from Ella to Kandy, is about 30km, why does it take the train 6 hours?
Answer: The train is slow, very slow. But the scenery is stunningWhen you are not looking out of the window or sitting on the trains door step reading your book, you have nothing to do, but just wait for the train to start moving again.
The train is climbing to the highest town in Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya, Little England, named so because the weather system has it's own micro climate which means it is wet, cold, grey and just miserable.
The only reason we plan to stop there is because this train will take such a long time to get all the way to Kandy, we thought we would break the journey up.
Will it be worth it?
