Our final day in Avoriaz came to a close by 2 pm, leaving just enough time to savour one last look at the snowy peaks before packing up and starting the long drive home. We stopped overnight in Dijon at the Holiday Inn, a welcome reprieve after a week in the mountains. A hot shower, some good food, and a comfortable night’s sleep at ground level were just what we needed to recharge.

Reflections on the Holiday

This skiing holiday was one to remember. The snow conditions were nothing short of perfect—fluffy powder, crisp pistes, and breathtaking blue skies. It’s the kind of week every skier dreams of.

That said, it wasn’t without its challenges. Adam’s attitude cast a bit of a shadow, with his self-centred behaviour, occasional drama, and reluctance to pitch in. It was frustrating at times, but we didn’t let it ruin our experience. The rest of us made the most of the holiday, and despite the hiccups, it was a fantastic week. In fact, we’re already planning to book again next year!

Memorable Moments

Looking back, there are so many highlights that will stay with us:

  • Playing Uno in the Bar: Simple, silly fun that had us all laughing (and a little competitive).
  • Katja Falling Down the Blue Run: She handled it with her usual determination and got back up stronger.
  • Bryan Eating Snails on the First Night: A bold culinary choice—surprisingly enjoyable!
  • Katja Pizzering Down the Slopes: Watching her tackle the slopes with her snowplough style was both endearing and entertaining.
  • Trying Raclette on Their Birthday: Katja embraced the Alpine tradition, and it became one of the most memorable meals of the trip.
  • Dana’s Skiing Lesson at 49: Proof that it’s never too late to learn something new and have fun doing it.
  • Crossing from France to Switzerland: There’s something surreal about skiing across borders, a true bucket-list experience.

Looking Ahead

Despite a few bumps along the way, this trip reminded us of why we love these mountain escapes. The beauty of the Alps, the thrill of skiing, and the laughter shared with family—it’s the perfect combination.

Next year, we’ll be back, hopefully with a little less drama and even more to look forward to. Here’s to making more memories in the snow!
