Rarotonga - Meeting the Chief of the island

Uncategorized
shapeimage_4 Friday night is party night on the island of Rarotonga, the busses run to the early hours of the morning, and all the bars are busy full of people out to enjoy themselves. We were no different, first a NZ$15 eat all you can Indian buffet, then on to Trader Jacks where we got to sit on the sea wall drinking our wine and keeping a watchful eye on the crab crawling over the wall. Then on the Whatever bar, for another bottle of wine. Both of us were minding our own business and would you know it, this local man comes and sits at our table to chat to us about our Queen. Then he asks us ‘have you ever had a drink with a King before? well you have now!’ At first we did’t believe him until the staff said who he was and that he is the Chief of the Island. we were in the presence of royalty! He then says you must come to my house for a cup of tea - something we were tempted to take him up on but we didn’t. What an ending to our time on Rarotonga, something we’ll never forget.
