There really isn't a huge amount to tell you about this.
It is a UNESCO world heritage train though and they call it the toy train as it runs on narrow gauge track (for those of you who know what that means).
The track runs from Shimla to Kalka through the Himalayan foothills and is truly stunning to ride on. The journey took us 6 hours and there are no refreshments on the train at all.
However we did take a couple of packet of biscuits and some drinks with us for the trip which was great. Until we decided to swap carriages so we could have one to ourselves and then realised we had left our food on the previous carriage

As you couldn't walk from one carriage to another, we had to wait until the train stopped to jump off and go back and get it - luckily no one had eaten it!
We could also get off here and there to buy things at stations but there was so little to buy except hot food and packets of crisps.
Back to the train... it only moved at approx 25mph so it is easy to see why it took 6 hours but we weren't complaining. We weren't in any rush.
When we arrived at Kalka it was 4pm and we had 1 3/4 hours to wait for our fast train back to Delhi. The food served on this train was delicious and we were ready for it too. British Rail could learn a thing or two from Indian trains!
Then by 10pm we were back in familiar territory - Jody's favourit city in India - Delhi.

The Shimla - Kalka train will definitely be going on our list of great train journeys we have done for sure.
