Singapore - Raffles Hotel

shapeimage_4 This little treat was lined up as it is the second anniversary of when we met on the 25th of this month. Unfortunately we can’t do anything together that day as it has been earmarked for Bryan’s son’s pre-wedding dinner, so a celebration a week early. When we got there we had to leave our bags with reception as it was too early for check in. So we went and had lunch and Bryan got his hair cut (bout time too!)He had been progressively shaving his beard off too all morning so now he looks all handsome again :-) When we eventually got to our room it was beautiful. The first thing we did was take photos because as soon as Bryan unpacks his bags it won’t look anything like it again! Then we flopped on the bed to revel in the egyptian cotton sheets and the big fluffy pillows! We made use of the bath to have a good soak and ease our achy feet but didn’t really have too much time to revel though as Bryan’s parents were coming round at 5pm to have a nose of our room before we all went to dinner in the Billiard Club & Bar. When they arrived we got them to take that picture of us bouncing on the bed as it was just too good an opportunity to miss! We all went for a walk around the hotel to take some more photographs too. We could get into so many more places than when we were here last time - that’s because we had a ‘resident’s key’ ha ha :-) Dinner was beautiful. It was buffet style (but oh what a buffet) The array of beautiful food for us to help ourselves was just beautiful. All you can eat for £35 a head - bargain! Only trouble is that lots of people had taken that literally and all the beef wellington was gone by 8.30pm. Bryan & his dad were not happy bunnies as they had kept saying since they had arrived - oh must get some of that beef it looks beautiful. Later Bryan’s parents headed off to their hotel and we had a lovely night in a lovely bed. So quiet there - bliss :-) Next morning and breakfast was just as beautiful. Too much food though and even taking tiny portions there was too much to be able to sample something from every display. The roof top has a swimming pool so we made use of that for half an hour before begrudgingly gong back to our room to pack. Bryan said before we left that he couldn’t remember the last time he felt so properly clean. Bye bye beautiful room and hello Sleepy Sam’s again. Only for one night this time though. Raffles Hotel Room rating: 100/10 - well you’ve seen the pictures! Location: 9/10 - good location Staff: 10/10 - could not do enough for us without being OTT Value for Money: 1/10 Value for our sanity to feel human again: 10/10 Other comments: very very comfy bed and and and.......the food for dinner could have been hotter but no complaints about the taste Stay again? oh yes if we could afford it Overall area experience: 10/10 this place just oozes old fashioned colonial charm. Even though we turned up fairly scruffy, the staff were great, not patronising or snobbish and were a real breath of fresh air. Even when we checked out they said if we wanted to go back and freshen up or use the pool before our flight then just pop back in!! WoW!!
