Perth the most isolated city in the world

shapeimage_4 After spending a whole day & night at Melbourne airport we caught an early, three and half hour flight to Perth with Tiger airways. Changing clocks again this time three hours backwards. Upon landing at Perth airport it was really sunny even at 8.30am. Hooray sunshine! We caught a taxi in to the city centre as this appeared to be the cheapest option to get in to the city, costing us almost AU $30. We arrived at our Hostel, Old Swan Barracks Hostel in the centre of the city. Having checked in we headed for the harbour and the Old Swan, where the Annalakshmi Indian Restaurant is. A vegetarian Indian restaurant with a big difference; there are no prices - it’s “eat as you like and pay as you feel.” A buffet style Indian meal which was gorgeous. They supply you with a big silver platter and you just help yourself and the food was great. We sat on the gallery over looking the river swan, it was just lovely to be out in the open relaxing and soak up the nights ambience. After a good nights sleep we caught the free bus, all the local buses in Perth are free, to Kings Park which is on the north side of town up a hill overlooking Perth City, with the blue skies and sunny weather, it looked beautiful. The park has a botanical gardens and has a number of Boab trees, upside down trees with a huge trunk that holds all the water and where it looks like the tree roots are out of the ground with leafs. The main one there was moved 3,500km to the park and is 750 years old. Kings Park was well looked after and lovely to walk around. The next day we took a train to Fremantle as we wanted to see the ocean. the train was very cheap - only about £2.50 so good value. We were actually quite disappointed with Fremantle when we got there. Only a tiny bit of beach that was all covered in weed but the harbour was lovely and the buildings are all quite quaint. Back to Perth (much nicer) and you’ve guessed it - back to the Apple store. More uploads, emails and research etc as we have yet to book anything for Singapore, Bali and Malaysia(our next stops). Wednesday 30th is our last day in Perth :-( (we have really liked this place) and Bryan woke up feeling all groggy with a cold. So nice quiet day today. We started off by sending a parcel back home each. We have picked up bits and pieces along the way in Australia (dress & trousers in Nimbin, T-shirts etc) which means we can’t close our suitcases anymore! then down to the harbour where the poor little soldier had a snooze and recharged his batteries. Then up and off to the airport - next stop; Singapore! Old Swan Barracks Room rating: 2/10 small & noisy Location: 9/10 - right in the city Staff: 2/10 - they just sat behind the desk and did as little as they could Value for Money: 3/10 - lack of facilities Other comments: rules pinned up all over the place, showers disgusting, and all generally dirty Stay again? No way Overall City experience: 9 we loved it here
