Our tips when travelling by air
19 December 2014
You know just how bad the food is on the flights, but did you know you can take your own packed lunch. Bring along the food you enjoy, or buy it at the airport and ask them to box it up for you. Just remember to bring a Spork or plastic knife and fork. Of course you won't be able to bring on liquids, most flights off drinks for free and are normally okay. But on those low budget airline who are now doing long haul they charge you for everything. You can either buy drinks after the security check or if you are English, bring your own tea bags. As hot water is always free.
When biking which seat you want to sit in don't forget to consider when you are flying from and to. You might find that sitting on the right of the plan give you a fantastic view of London as you come in to land. Most landings at Heathrow are westerly due to the weather.
Can't view the small screens these airlines are providing, technology now you can carry as many movies in your pocket. So download the movies you would like to see. Even check out IMDB website for all time favourites, many of which you'll never have seen.
The air conditioning on a plane is cold, so even in those hot countries even though it nice to get out of the heat and in to air conditioning. Take a flease with you, it can always double up as a pillow too.
Ever wondered what you are flying over and more importantly missing? Check out your flight plan before you you get on the plane. You can find a lot of useful information from flightaware, both web and apps are available.
With flightaware you can see the flight path that is planned, you might find that 4 hours in to your flight you fly over Urlru like it did for us going from kuala lumpa to Sydney. We had planned it down to the actual time of view it and you know what it was there in its full glory, we even have photos to provide it.
Nothing to declare.
Why? If they stop you you'll be fined and items removed, and you'll have a black mark against you.
We almost always go though the declare channel, we carry tea bags, Panama hat which is straw, leather shoes. All of which are a yes tick on the forms. If in doubt tick yes.
Quite often you'll find the declare channels are empty and after a quick chat they let you go through.
They will ask what are you declaring, our response is everything. That way we can not be accused of not declaring anything.
