New Year Day - Polar Bear Swim

shapeimage_4 The sun was shining, the skies were clear, that could only mean one thing, it must be the start of a new year and today was the day we spent joining in the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay, Vancouver. With what must have been over 5,000 people and 2,000 of them getting ready to swim. And Dale and I were ready to go, the count began, 5, 4, 3, 2, we’re off. I darted for the buoy, some 50 metres in the bay, the cold did not hit me until about 10 metres before the buoy, once I had realised that I was not in the top three, OMG it was cold, I reached the buoy about 6th, buggers, all that way now I had to get back, and now the cold really got to my bones, my arms were stinging, my legs were just frozen with numbness. Upon reaching the beach I found Dale, bright eyed and frozen too. Time to get the camera and collect our badges. Jody & Tannis were waiting for us with dry towels and hot chocolate with rum in ....perfect! All in all it was a great way to start the New Year off too. click here to see the photos
