Mongolia - Terelj NP - Ger Life
6 July 2011
We both woke without a hangover which quite surprised us but also we thought oh no we now don't have any more vodka to drink until we get to the shops on Sunday! We did make a note that for our next trip out to buy more bottles of vodka as it was quite enjoyable.
The day was overcast & the sight chance of rain so we decided to go for a walk after breakfast which was bread, pickles and cold meat.
After collecting more fire wood we head up the hill through the trees and out the other side, we caught glimpse of two eagles coming within 10 metres of us then soaring high in to the sky. They gently glided higher and higher and directly above our heads, we were a little worried after yesterday's encounter with the eagles we knew how big their claws were and we didn't like the thought of them thinking we might be food for them and them swooping down on our heads! Only our own fears we know but still in our minds.
Further up the hill we came across a flock of woolly goats all clambering over the rocks. The ground everywhere was covered in what seemed to be grass hoppers. And the small but beautiful wild flowers were everywhere and so many different types too. Beautiful.
Climbing higher the eagles swooped so close to us that it took Jody by surprise, only 10 feet away but we were too slow for the cameras to capture it. Finally reaching the top of the hill the view of the next valley was stunning, breath taking. We took so many photos, but they will never replace what we could see and feel. As it had started to drip rain we returned back down the hill side and collected our fire wood, still where we left it before climbing to the top of the hill.
Upon returning to our ger our lunch arrived small what was like pasties, Jody's being potato and onions and Bryan's meat and onion both very delicious.
As the day was over cast, windy and a little chilly, we spent it in front of the log burning stove in our ger. A little later Todah (the family's grandson) came and walked through our door (yes they don't knock and say "can I come in?" they just barge straight in!) and said "I'm bored, can I play games with you?". We said yes and taught him a card game and he taught us some Mongolian ones too. Then he proceeded to show us magic tricks, Jody being Jody just had to show her extra special non-magic magic trick which Todah laughed and found it very funny.
We collected more wood and settled in for the evening, which soon became night fall. Sitting in our ger, no windows, just the sound of wild horses around us, cows chewing and mooing and dogs barking. So peaceful.
