Food Travels
11 April 2011
One of the questions I asked myself before leaving England, was how am iI going to cope as a vegetarian in the Asian world? I did steel myself for having to eat some pretty weird combinations when I got there but some countries have surprised me.
Other people asked me the same question also, so I thought you may be interested in our food highlights and food lowlights!

FOOD LOWLIGHTS
Jody:
1.USA - everything except the burrito mentioned above
2.Chinese food in Singapore it was gross
3.All food in Kuala Lumpur except the Subway Veggie Delight I had coz I was so desperate!
4.Weird vegetable pizza in Gila Meno, Indonesia. Yes it had vegetables on it - carrots, green beans, cabbage.....!
5.Canada could only provide vegetarian food in the form of some type of bread with melted cheese. Many variations of that but it got really boring and not good for the waistline
Bryan:
1.Cray fish in Kaikoura, such a sore belly afterwards
2.Breakfast in Boston, Wall paper paste (Grits)
3.Only burgers on the menu though-out most of North America
4.Only being able to find Wifi in McDonnell's while in New Zealand, meaning we felt obliged to eat something crap!
5.Hungry Jacks, Australia, the worst fast food ever.
Australia on the whole was good for all food, vegetarian and non. New Zealand was a bit disappointing. You really would think of NZ as being a modern forward thinking country but on the subject of food, as well as many others, NZ trails behind the rest of the modern world.
The Cook Islands was brilliant as there was so much fresh fruit available; bananas and passion fruit straight from the trees. Fiji was ok, they did their best for me but if I didn’t like fried eggs I think they really wouldn’t have known what to give me. Fried eggs with rice, fried egg burger, fried egg with salad etc etc.
Singapore was great as there are so many different types of food available, you just keep going until you find something you like. I did tend to stick close to Little India though as good cheap food was available all day long.
