Elephant Safari

Flag of Sri Lanka  , Friday, July 18, 2014

Jagath whisked us off to our next stop - Minneriya National Park. With the promise of hundreds of elephants waiting for us, we pessimistically set off on safari. We are not always very lucky with these safaris. All the ones we had done so far; we have never seen a wild tiger or a wild leopard so we really didn't hold out much hope. Our worst fears were not realised though,  when after a couple of kms into the national park, we saw some wild elephants in the forest. They were a bit hidden in the trees but we definitely saw them. Then a few more. Then a few more

Then we turned a corner and there were hundreds of them just as Jagath has promised there would be :-) We were all so excited as there were elephants everywhere we looked. It seems that in the evenings they all come to the lake to drink, play and cool off. We all were just mesmerised by them and i'm afraid we took rather a lot of photos! If you like elephants you will enjoy our album here. What a day! Back at our Hotel we got an early night as we had an early start the next day to see Sigiriya [gallery columns="4" ids="6561,6564,6567,6569,6572,6574,6577,6579,6581,6584,6593,6596,6600,6603,6607,6611,6616,6622,6626,6631,6636,6642,6647,6649,6653,6657,6660,6666,6671,6676,6683,6687,6689,6695,6702,6704,6709,6714,6718,6724,6728,6733,6740,6746,6752,6758,6762,6767,6770,6775,6776,6784,6792,6796,6799,6803,6806,6813,6820,6824,6825,6828,6832,6833,6837,6843,6849,6852,6854,6858,6867,6870,6875,6879,6882,6886,6891,6895,6900,6911,6915,6918,6921,6923,6928,6936,6937,6938,6941,6944,6948,6950,6953,6958,6963,6964,6966,6967,6969"]
