Peru

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]This was a BIG event for the El Comedor families. It isn't often they get to go out, altogether, relax, enjoy the sunshine and just be themselves for the day. So along with 7 Otra Cosa volunteers (Bibi, William, Marketa, Chloe, Kelsey, Jenny & us two), we set off in two buses, a dozen mums or so and 40ish kids, 20 ltrs of water, a pan of rice, a pan of chicken, a bucket full of juice and a tray of cookies. An hour late setting off but that seems par for the course in Peru - NEVER plan to leave on time! Just an hour away is the beautiful setting of Conache Park. It's a natural lagoon making an oasis in the dessert just half an hour the other side of Trujillo.

The ladies have made this trip before and as soon as we had arrived and paid our 60p entrance fee each to get in (Otra Cosa were treating everyone today from funds raised), the mums set off like they knew exactly where they were going and grabbed a big shady tree. We reckon it took the kids less than 2 minutes to get into swimming costumes and into the water! Bryan had brought along some swimming noodles to help the less confident ones and they were soon in the water too - no hanging around with those - the kids love the noodles. Bryan has had his own little fundraising campaign whilst he has been here and bought some extra noodles with the small change he had left over. Twice a week the money raised has paid to take a group of the older kids to the large swimming pool a few miles away on the bus. It was good for the mums to just relax and the kids could run riot in the lagoon and the mums could relax a bit more, knowing there were volunteers on hand to help keep an eye on their children.

The mums even managed to take a boat ride together on the beautiful lagoon and it was really funny to see them all giggling like school girls when they snuck off from the kids. They had waited until the kids weren't looking then all ran to the boat. It was so funny. Especially when on the boat, they passed the children and waved and yelled at them as if they were leaving them and the kids suddenly realised what was happening. Bryan too as Jody was on the boat with the mums! But we came back of course we did, then everyone else got a turn on the boat. It was a great day out and judging how tired we were when we got home, we don't doubt everyone slept very well that night.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
