Our Anniversary

shapeimage_4 Good Morning Jody and happy anniversary. 2 years together now. Bryan gave Jody a card and small Mongolian dolls as a present. Jody had already given Bryan presents when we were in Seoul on our other anniversary - 25th June. A short drive to a small monastery in the mountains, very pretty and not much left due to being destroyed many years ago. The small stream was very welcoming for both Jody and Bryan's feet which cooled them down before they headed back to the car. A long drive to Kharkhorin which is the old capital city of Chinggis Khaan days. The road was getting worse, huge pot holes and it no longer became a two way road more a case of find a smooth bit of road go for it. We parked just outside the city walls where we looked at the big penis made of stone. We are told it was put there to deter randy monks from visiting the local ladies! We bought two lovely bronze horses as a memento of our anniversary and the first thing for our new home when we get back to England. We also stopped by a small local market which was old shipping containers all opened up. Lots of ger goods on sale but we were there to stock up on food and water supplies. Jody desperately wanted the toilet only to find the worst long drop toilet yet. Even worse - a dog was scavenging in the pit underneath. It was just gross. We told Teleh we wanted to sleep in a ger that night and at this point, we left the sealed roads behind us. After a bit of hunting, we were welcomed in with a family and airag was offered to us along with bread, home made goats cheese, goat butter and sweets and some snuff from the grandad. There were only 2 beds in the ger which Jody & Marie grabbed which meant the boys were on the floor! The Ger apparently belonged the grandparents and we found out the next day they had had to move out to put us up. Woops! But they didn’t seem to care and were happy to take our money for the nights stay. About £5 for all 4 of us making it the cheapest accommodation of our trip. Bryan and Eric went to the river for a swim and the younger children all followed and they spent time playing in the shallows of the river. Great fun.
