Off To Cambodia

shapeimage_4 Note the date!!! well what a fiasco this was! We were well prepared for it this time after our hassles of crossing into Laos but even we could not have sorted this one out. First we had to get the ferry at 8am from our Island to the mainland. To start with it seemed we were not going to get on a boat at all as the man didn’t like our ticket. Luckily after some shouting at someone whom we couldn’t see, he found another boat for us (the first was full) ok so far... Then we had to wait for the bus on the mainland. 9.30am it was due. 10.30am it turned up! We had a scramble for seats as there were not enough as usual but again, luckily we got 2 together. OK again... The Cambodian border was only 1/2 hour away and that is where it got worse. The border crossing is being rebuilt ad will be all modern and swanky when its finished. At the moment it is just a building site and there is no road across no mans land. Our driver decided to make one and broke the bus! We were spot on this time with the bits we had to do but 4 hours later, Yes 4 HOURS in searing heat we had to wait, the bus was finally ready to move again. As we headed off we thought the worst was over. Until we headed into a huge thunderstorm. the lightning was so close it was hitting the ground in the field next to the bus> iWNeither of us has ever been that close to lightning before it was very impressive! That’s not so bad you might say, but seriously you did not see the roads we were going down. This huge double decker coach going down what were essentially dirt roads in a storm so big we could barely see the roads, which were next to a flooded river!! want more? how about tiny narrow wooden bridges!! Several times we heard a cry of “oh shit” go up from the people who could see out of the front window. It was not until 11pm that we arrived in to Phnom Penh. We took a Tuk Tuk and 10 minutes later we arrived at out guest house C’est Wat and were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and an Angkor Beer. It felt like they had waited up for us. Then they told that they were fully booked as our internet booking had reached them just after they had let our room out and we had to go to another hotel for the night. How much worse could tghis day get?? Our room at Waterfront Guest house no windows but at that time of night and after the day we had had, we just wanted to sleep. It truly was Friday 13th, Bryan check the diary to see if any other Fridays fell on 13th, thankfully none.
