Nasca Lines...!

Peru
Photograph accompanying Nasca Lines...!
Another early pick up again today, and off to see the Nasca lines. The car was coming at 8am for us and Joshua had advised us to wait until after our flight to have breakfast. But that was ok he would have it ready for us when we got back. A bit concerned now, we arrived at the very small airport with the others in the mini bus and made our way to check-in. We had to be weighed and our passports checked - even though we wouldn't be landing anywhere else which seemed a bit odd. But never mind, all the necessities done we sat down to await our slot and watch the National Geographic documentary about the lines that the airport had on a loop for the tourists.

Then it was our turn and we were called to the plane. A young Peruvian pilot waited there to greet us and asked us if we wanted pictures taken with him and the plane. Of course we said yes! The plane was tiny - just 6 seats - 2 at the front for the pilot and the guide then we were seated according to our weight which meant Bryan got the middle with a young chap from Oxford, and Jody got the back with the Oxford girlfriend. Small world isn't it? The pilot provided us with maps of the lines and explained the route he would fly so the order in which we would see the shapes of the Nasca lines. He also explained he would fly both ways around it so we would all get a good view of every line from whichever side of the plane we were seated.

The area is so beautiful with the mountains framing the desert it was a whole other perspective and was stunning - yes stunning! The lines appeared one by one and we all snapped away. We saw the most famous ones - The Hummingbird, The Spider, The Condor, & The Alien on the rock (or it could just be a human).

We didn't need the vomit bags provided and this flight at least did not live up to it's reputation as "The Vomit Comet". Thankfully although it was quite bumpy. We almost didn't do this flight because of the cost - at £50 each it was quite a chunk of our budget. But in the end, we knew we simply could not - not do it. And we were so glad we did - it was incredible
