3 August 2024

A Trip to Cirkvice: A Nostalgic Visit
Our adventure took us from the heart of Prague into the tranquil Czech countryside, heading towards Cirkvice, where Dana’s father once had a house. As we approached, we were delighted to find that the property was being well cared for by two local ladies. Their dedication to maintaining the house and its grounds was evident, and it was clear that Dana’s family home was in good hands. The serene surroundings and well-preserved estate offered a picturesque glimpse into the rural life that Dana’s family had once enjoyed.
Kutná Hora: A Bohemian Gem
Next on our itinerary was Kutná Hora, an enchanting old Bohemian city renowned for its rich history and striking architecture. Our visit began with the majestic Cathedral of St. Barbara (Svatá Barbora), a masterpiece of Gothic design. The cathedral, with its intricate spires and detailed frescoes, is not only a prominent symbol of the city but also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its grandeur and historical significance make it a must-see for anyone exploring the region.
Wandering through Kutná Hora, we were charmed by its quaint, cobbled streets and historic buildings, each adding to the city’s old-world charm. We chose to have lunch at an old hotel that, during the Communist era, was the only place to stay in town. This historic establishment offered a glimpse into the past, with its traditional décor and classic Czech cuisine. The experience was both nostalgic and enjoyable, perfectly capturing the essence of Kutná Hora’s unique character.

Kemp Jinolice: Lakeside Relaxation
After our explorations, we drove to Kemp Jinolice, a campsite located by a scenic lake. This would be our home for the next two nights. The campsite, nestled in a tranquil setting, offered the perfect blend of natural beauty and comfort.
On Saturday night, we took a leisurely walk to the campsite’s bar, where we were treated to a performance by “Dnes Hogo Fogo,” a local band. The lively music filled the air as the older generation danced with enthusiasm, adding a touch of local culture to our evening. The atmosphere was vibrant, with the band’s lively tunes creating a festive ambiance that brought everyone together. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience local traditions and enjoy a relaxed evening by the lake.
Conclusion
Our journey from the Czech countryside to the historic streets of Kutná Hora and the picturesque campsite at Kemp Jinolice has been a blend of nostalgia, cultural immersion, and natural beauty. Each stop offered its own unique charm, from the lovingly maintained family home to the grandeur of St. Barbara’s Cathedral and the lively local music by the lake. As we continue our travels, we look forward to discovering more hidden gems and creating lasting memories in this captivating region of the Czech Republic.
