Hiking the Prachovské Skály
4 August 2024

Our day began with an invigorating hike up to the Prachovské skály, a stunning natural monument located in the Bohemian Paradise region. Known for its dramatic rock formations and breathtaking landscapes, the Prachovské skály offered a myriad of hiking trails that wind through its rugged terrain.
The hike was both challenging and rewarding, with trails that meandered up and down numerous steps, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Covering a total distance of about 15 kilometres, we explored the various viewpoints and craggy paths, all while accompanied by our energetic dogs. The sheer beauty of the rock formations, with their towering spires and intricate shapes, made every step worth the effort. By the end of our trek, we were exhausted but elated, having taken in some of the most spectacular scenery the Czech Republic has to offer.
Returning to the Campsite: A Stormy Surprise
After our exhilarating hike, we returned to Kemp Jinolice to unwind. The day had been sunny and pleasant, but as the evening approached, the weather took a dramatic turn. A fierce storm rolled in, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. We scrambled to secure the marquee that we had set up earlier, but despite our efforts, the storm’s intensity left us just managing to prevent any major damage. It was a reminder of nature’s unpredictability, but fortunately, we were able to safeguard our campsite and take refuge inside.

5th August: A Charming Visit to Jičín and Harrachov
The following morning, we set out for Harrachov, a picturesque town nestled in the Krkonoš Mountains. On our way, we stopped in Jičín, a town known for its association with the beloved Czech cartoon character Rumcajs and his family. Rumcajs, his wife Manka, and their little son Cipísek have charmed generations of Czech children, and Jičín celebrates their story with various themed attractions.
One highlight of our visit was the tiny cobbler’s house, a quaint little museum that captures the essence of Rumcajs’ world. Inside, we found an array of wooden toys, reminiscent of the ones seen in the stories. The house was filled with young children, their faces lighting up as they played with the traditional toys. It was heartwarming to see how the simple pleasures of Rumcajs’ tales continue to delight new generations.
As we left Jičín, we continued our journey to Harrachov, a town renowned for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities. The drive offered scenic views and a sense of anticipation for the adventures that awaited us in this charming alpine setting.
