Exploring the Muzeum skla je součástí sklárny
6 August 2024

Our day began with a visit to the Muzeum skla je součástí sklárny, a historic glass factory that has been preserved for its cultural and historical significance. The factory, which has been operational for many years, offers a fascinating glimpse into the traditional art of glassmaking.
During our tour, we witnessed the intricate process of glass production, where skilled artisans crafted exquisite Bohemian glassware. The tour was both educational and enthralling, as we observed the intense heat of the glass furnaces, with temperatures reaching up to 2000°C. The glassblowers, wearing traditional sandals and working in an environment filled with the hiss and glow of molten glass, demonstrated techniques that have been passed down through generations.
We were particularly struck by how close tourists could get to the action, mere feet away from the blazing glass. Despite the intense heat and the formidable machinery, the atmosphere was vibrant and engaging. The Bohemian glass, renowned for its intricate designs and craftsmanship, was a highlight of the visit. We couldn’t resist purchasing two elegant wine glasses, each adorned with a beautifully knotted stem, a perfect memento of our experience.

Harrachov: A Wellness Retreat
From the glass museum, we made our way to Harrachov, known for its picturesque setting and its ski resort. We had booked a stay at the David Wellness Spa Hotel, a luxurious retreat nestled in the heart of the Krkonoš Mountains. The hotel’s spa facilities were a welcome treat after our earlier adventures. We took full advantage of the pool and spa, indulging in relaxation and rejuvenation.
A Chairlift Ride and Cherished Memories
One of the day’s highlights was a scenic chairlift ride to the top of the surrounding peaks. The views from the top were breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the alpine landscape. For Dana, this experience was particularly special as it evoked fond childhood memories of her time spent in Harrachov. The stunning views and the crisp mountain air were a poignant reminder of her past, and she relished every moment of our visit.
A Czech Culinary Delight
Our evening concluded with a delightful meal at the hotel’s outdoor restaurant, where we enjoyed a traditional Czech dinner. The meal was exceptional, featuring local specialties that were both hearty and flavourful. Dining al fresco with the beautiful backdrop of the mountains made the experience even more memorable. The Czech cuisine, with its rich flavours and traditional dishes, was undoubtedly the best meal we had enjoyed on this trip.
