Dominican Republic Our Summary XXX   We loved ~ the beaches of Punto Cana, the weather, the old Colonial zone of Santo Domingo We didn't like ~ ummmm…. The people ~ nice. Friendlier than Curacao… The Food ~  ok not brilliant The Transport ~ Buses, taxis and taxi bikes – why do taxi bikes try and tout us when we have tons of luggage? The Weather ~  beautiful! Hot hot hot! Sunshine all day long with a nice breeze coming in off the ocean so it isn't exhausting heat Miles travelled ~  we have travelled 100 miles (120km)?? Capital ~ Santo Domingo Population ~ 10 million (1 million in Santo Domingo) They drive on ~ the right Currency ~ Dominican Peso  £1 = 60 DOP Language ~ Spanish Did we feel safe? ~ Yes but there wasn't really anywhere to go outside the resorts. In the city we stuck to the safer areas - or so we thought!! Things which will remind us of Dominican Republic ~ mangos, chips, Russians, blue blue sky, brandy Alexander cocktails Would we recommend it?  Yes great place Places we stayed, cost per night and our Star Rating Total number of different beds slept in ~ 3 Santo Domingo ~ Class Colonial Hostel ~ £20 / night B&B 3.5* Punta Cana ~ Whala Hotel ~ £70 / night all-inclusive 4* ~ Carib Club Princess £85 /night all inclusive 5*
