Day trip to the Sunshine Coast
5 September 2015

It was a sleepy drive up there but for the first time in days, the sun was shining and we were hopeful for some good weather. We had a short wait for the ferry then a fairly short crossing to the other side.
The ride was beautiful. The sun was shining and the water was so calm, it makes all the difference and we spent most of the crossing outside taking in the beautiful scenery. It actually reminded us very much of the ferry ride when you cross between North and South Island in New Zealand.
Now it looks like we are taking the ferry to an islandWe have seen a lot of totem poles whilst we have been travelling around Vancouver and this place was just the same. As most of the areas we have been in belong to "First Nation" people - which is the name given to the Canadian indigenous people. Not sure we like that term - it sounds a bit too politically correct to sound sincere - but that's what they call them so we'll stick with it.
Then we came to the highlight of our day. Garden Bay.
This is where Tannis has been coming every year for 18 years and Dale now comes too. The Jazz festival is held here every year for 19 years and she missed the first one she tells us. They rent a beautiful cabin overlooking the bay for 2 weeks and we can honestly see why they come here. It is beautiful.
We spent a bit of time lazing around the hotel where they stay which overlooks the marina and soaked up some sun and fresh air.
Then drove around to the other side of the bay to a great little pub where we sat outside and did more of the same

But it's NOT an island. It's a peninsular off the mainland further up the coast. But it is a long way round to drive to it so most people take the ferry and save a shed load of time which they can then spend on the island. Sorry - it's NOT an island!
Well first stop was a pit stop for Tannis as she was having withdrawal symptoms but not to worry, she had been coming here for years and knew where every Starbucks was on the way. So imagine her anguish when we got to her usual stop and Starbuck was no more! Oh no this was her worst nightmare. How could they do this without telling her. Disgraceful!
Well don't worry, no harm came to Tannis as just as we were pulling out of the carpark, we spotted the green Siren logo just a bit further along the road. And it was brand new. Order was restored and we sat in the sunshine whilst Tannis clung to her coffee and the shakes calmed down. Phew!
We drove on and stopped at Davis Bay. The water was sparkling as we walked down the pier and watched the fishermen at the end. No one seemed to be catching anything but it was such a lovely morning they didn't seem to mind much.[singlepic id=118 w= h= float=center]

This time with some food inside us. It really was lovely.
But as we know, the ferries wait for no man so it was time to leave sooner than we all wished.
We had left it late to drive back to the ferry so there was no time to stop at the Dragon & Unicorn Farm (what is that place??)
We truly had had a wonderful relaxing day and enjoyed every minute of it. Bryan slept almost all the way back home and we wondered if he was dreaming of dragons and unicorns...!)
Dale & Tannis, your mission if you chose to accept it, is to visit that farm and tell us what goes on. We wait in[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text][FAG id=2852][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
