Canadian number One

We boarded the world famous Canadian train number One, from Toronto to Vancouver, over 5 days across Canada. We were to take a pit stop in Jasper for a few nights before continuing on our journey to Vancouver for Christmas. we boarded at 10pm so not a lot to report about it yet! Wednesday, 15 December 2010 This is a dream journey for a lot of people, and we are on it. Looking at the photos before we joined the train they are just as it is, beautiful scenery, slow winding train through the trees and the snow. What did we see, well trees, snow, lakes, trees, snow, lake, trees, snow, lake, trees and more snow. You can read a book for a hour or two perhaps, look up and you still see the same scenery as you did the first time you looked up, not to say it is not stunning and beautiful, don’t get me wrong, there is just so much of it. the train is very warm but we had a terrible nights sleep. hope we do better tonight. Thursday, 16 December 2010 snow, tree, field, snow, tree , field, snow, tree, field..... clocks have gone back another hour again and we stopped for a 4 hour break at Winnipeg. it was great to get off the train and stretch our legs properly. we saw the local market and the park by the rivers. it was -23 so we soon headed indoors for a hot chocolate. funny how we both felt like we were still moving even though were were on solid ground! back on the train at 12 and off we go again. hope to see the Aurora Borealis tonight. Friday, 17 December 2010 no sign of Aurora. We stopped at Edmonton at 7am (clocks have gone back again now) snow, trees, mountain, snow, trees, mountain, snow...yeah yeah you get it! but we can start looking out for bears now we are told next stop Jasper! whey hey - a proper bed, a bath, a shower, and a hot tub awaits us. Canadian 1 Sleep comfort rating: 2/10 - it’s likely we will find worse! Location: 10/10 - amazing views (although repetitive!) Staff: 5/10 Value for Money:5/10 - more expensive than flying, no blankets or pillows issued anymore and we got told off for using the shower!! Other comments: toilet kept breaking. not enough vegetarian options on the menu to use the dining car Do it again? no overall experience: 5.5 Christmas decorations: 1 - pathetic effort!
